Lalo Garcia
Born in La Cieneguita, a small roncho in the state of Michoacan, Mexico, celebrated artist
Lalo Garcia has spent 25 years immersed in the world of art as a design artist, production
designer, stage director and choreographer.
Among his enumerable accomplishments, Lalo founded The Dance Company Grupo Folklorico Fiesta
Mexicana in the City of San Fernando, California in 1978. As director and choreographer he has
preformed throughout the United States and Mexico, with 1988 highlighting his tour with Linda
Rondstadt’s “Canciones de Mi Padre” as well as her 1989 tour of “Mas Canciones.”
Working in association with Nati Cano of Mariachi Los Camperos, Lalo created a two-hour tribute
to the music of the Mariachi, its evolution and presents influence. This was presented at UCLA’s
Royce Hall in 1991.
Mr. Garcia is the creator of “Fiesta Navidad” the much acclaimed, long-running musical production
which represents
the Mexican Christmas traditions.
His works have been preformed in venues throughout the United States including Mark Taper Forum
in Los Angeles.
From 1987-1995 Lalo Garcia was in-house artist/designer for Martinez & Murphy, Inc. of Los
Angeles, a liturgical arts and sacred environment company. He designed such special works as
the vestments and miters of Pope John Paul II as well as all 350 Roman
Catholic bishops for the Pope’s visit to Los Angeles. Mr. Garcia also had the opportunity to
design the vestment worn by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius and other Hierarchies in
Russia on the occasion of the millennium of Christianity in 1988.
Lalo’s work can be seen at the Shrine of the Holy Redeemer in Las Vegas, Nevada. Featured work
in California can be found at the Beatitudes of our Lord, La Mirada, All Souls Catholic Church,
Alhambra, Saint Bemardme of Siena, Woodland Hills, as well as Santa Rosa Catholic Church in San
Fernando. His personal art pieces has been exhibited at the Downey Museum of Art, the Pueblo
Gallery on Olvera Street in Los Angeles, Arte Americas in Fresno, the Museum of Mexican Art in
Chicago, and the Galleria Posada in Sacramento. Lalo has been a featured artist for the Casa de
la Cuftura in Las Cruces, New Mexico, The Mexican Institute and the Mexican Consulate in Los
Angeles, Judson Studios, Gallery of Contemporary and Traditional Art, the Sacred Arts Festival,
Archdiocese of Los Angeles as well as Community Centers throughout the Southwest.
Lalo’s has had the privilege to serve as a member of the Arts and Furnishing Committee for the
Cathedral of Our Lady of the angels in Los Angeles and was bestowed the honor of designing the
Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe for the Cathedral.
Lalo’s unique talents, love for his native culture and commitment to preserving the folklore
of Mexico are reflected in his work.
